This 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray, entered into the 2015 Goodwood Revival by owner and collector Joe Calleja, has the distinction of being the last car that the late Peter Brock drove in competition before the fateful 2006 Targa West rally in which he suffered a fatal accident in a Daytona Sportscar. There's a neat tying up of affairs in all this, as Brock was the designer of the Shelby Daytona Cobra coupé, and also had a hand in styling the Corvette Sting Ray. Furthermore, Brock himself drove FCE 7C at the Goodwood Revival in 2004, '05 and '06; it's appropriate, then, that fellow countryman John Bowe was at the wheel of the Sting Ray for 2015 - a V8 Supercars Hall of Fame member, he's an eminently sensible choice to keep the Brock flame alive.
Unfortunately for the team, the car suffered a few engine hiccups that stopped it from being a dominant force in the hour-long RAC TT race, but it soldiered valiantly onward, bloodied but unbowed, keen to endear the crowds to its charms via the media of groundshaking rumbles and frightening exhaust flames. Jolly good thing, too - it's a beautiful creation to behold, isn't it?
