BMW M235i Racing

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

BMW's M235i Racing is a brutal thing. The base M235i itself is boisterous enough, taking the winning formula of the M135i (turbocharged straight-six, Tarmac-shredding grip, 326bhp) and bolting a boot onto the back to turn the hatchback into a coupé. But the Racing variant... that's a whole other level of aggression.
You can see from the photos that the exterior styling takes its cues from the oh-so on-trend ideas of Liberty Walk and Rocket Bunny - sodding great bolt-ons to widen the arches with an in-your-face attitude rather than attempting any semblance of blended subtlety. The production-based coupé makes for a splendid entry-level racing car, with its FIA-certified rollcage, mechanical LSD, front & rear spoilers and diffuser, and race-spec fuel tank. It looks like oodles of fun.
Brilliantly, you can have a go in this very car if you fancy - it's part of Goodwood's Ultimate Driving fleet. Look!

Spotted at Supercar Sunday - more photos here.
