Morgan SP1

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

If there's one thing Morgan loves, it's building bold and daring specials. And just look at the astounding SP1 that they hammered together for this year's Salon Privé!
It's actually the first official product of their new Special Projects division - inspired by their 2009 LifeCar concept, it takes the styling of the Aero 8 to its logical, dramatic conclusion. The aluminium panels wear a black base coat which gives a sinister edge to the red topcoat, and the interior features exotic African Bubinga red hardwood.
There's a 300bhp-ish 3.7-litre Ford V6 under the bonnet, tweaked suspension, an iPad infotainment system (held to the dash with leather straps!) and, best of all, a set of boisterous Centerline-style alloys. Oh, and to make it fit in properly with more traditional supercars, they've removed any semblance of rearward visibility.
If this is the kind of thing we can expect from the fledgling Special Projects team, we have much to look forward to in the future...
