Hillclimb Mini

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

There were a lot of Minis at the Retro Rides Gathering this year, and this was one of the most aggressive and purposeful. Its functional nature sees such classic design cues as the (slightly rusty) external door hinges and flip-front bonnet straps sitting alongside carbon-fibre race mirrors and up-to-date bucket seats. Everything screams 'performance', from the vast radiator to the chunky rollcage, the broad stance to the huge negative camber on the front wheels... and look, it's even got a fully detachable roof held down with bonnet pins! A wonderful little thing, that sounded like a can of angry hornets as it buzzed up the historic Shelsley Walsh hillclimb.
