Gonzoline Special

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

Adrian Bird's Gonzoline Special has been on the scene for a little while now, and it continues to wow the crowds at every outing with its old-school hot rod values and nu-wave custom chic. The thing's just a riot of detail; behold, if you will, the machine gun exhaust, the bead-rolled quilting-pattern doorcards with matching lightweight bucket seats, the minimalist rollover hoop, the polished drums, the perfect panel gaps... the car's been engineered from the ground up to perform and handle with best-in-class prowess, and yet the focus throughout has been to aesthetically perfect every element, leaving an end product that's both functional and beautiful. Indeed, it wears its functionality as art, with everything exposed for your perusal and inspection. A refreshingly honest Volksrod, and quite possibly the coolest that's prowling the UK's roads right now.
