CX Loadrunner + Comanche

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

This unusual combo may well be the coolest automotive setup you'll see today. And if not the coolest, certainly the longest...
What we're looking at here is a Citro├źn CX estate - not a particularly small thing in its original form - that's been extended somewhat to accommodate an extra axle at the rear, in the style of the CX ambulance conversions of the late eighties and early nineties. Added to this generous length is a caravan like no other; a 1964 Piper Comanche that's had its wings lopped off and insides scooped out, to create something that'll make all of the regular caravan owners on any given campsite feel a little troubled about their own life choices.
What this effectively entails, of course, is driving around in a car/trailer combo that's as long as a lorry. But that doesn't matter a jot, as the whole thing drips awesomeness from every pore. Oh, and it was built by a guy named Phil Collins. (No, not that one.)
