Porsche 991 Turbo Concept

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

The internet is a-flutter this week with news of the challenging new 991-era 911 Targa, but let's cast our minds back to something a little more, er, aesthetically cohesive. What you're looking at here is Porsche's Turbo Concept, on display at the 2013 Goodwood Revival. The use of the word 'concept' is obviously a bit daft inasmuch as the car is basically identical to what became the production model Turbo S, but what the Turbo Concept achieved was to once again wow the motoring press: on its merry perambulation around the global show circuit, Porsche demonstrated that the hot-rod 991s would fuse old-school 911 values with yet more advanced tech. That rubbery chin spoiler? That's an active item that moves up and down. The rear wheels are 'steerable' to incrementally extend or shorten the wheelbase. And look, it's got centre-lock wheels like a GT3 RS.
Of course, with the Turbo & Turbo S 991 now a regular feature on our roads, looking at the Concept version doesn't tell us anything new. But it's nice to see a few up-close details, isn't it? Thought you'd like that.
