RDR 8 Gordini

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

The Renault 8 Gordini is an all-time SuckSqueezeBangBlow favourite, and has been on the lottery wishlist for some time. This one, prepared by Rae Davis Racing, is a 1965 model that was owned and raced in period by the owner of a Renault dealership in Poole. Davis acquired it in the eighties and has been campaigning it ever since, although as you can see, it had a bit of a rough time at this year's Goodwood Revival. With Nic Minassian at the wheel, the Gordini made firm and unfortunate contact with Derek Bell's Lotus Cortina at Lavant Corner, rendering them both non-starters for the second round of the St. Mary's Trophy.
The incident didn't seem to dampen RDR's spirits too much though - they were still cheerfully cavorting in their false moustaches and retrieving baguettes from the Renault 4 Fourgonnette works van, the stricken 8 peeking glumly out next to them. Hey, that's racing...
