Capri RS3100

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

One of the best things about the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as you've no doubt heard countless times before, is the opportunity to get up really close to so many heroic and iconic cars. The Capri RS3100 ETCC racer has long been a favourite of mine; homologated with an enlarged Cologne engine to replace the RS2600, the racer aimed to take on the dominant BMW 3.0 CSLs that had been leaving Ford eddying in their wake for some time. Its brawny arches and vast spoilers turn the swoopy coupé into a glorious caricature of itself, and that quad-cam V6 really is a vicious and splendid work of art. So, here are a few detail shots for you to enjoy, snapped in Goodwood's Cathedral Paddock.
