GT40s of the Revival

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

The Goodwood Revival's Whitsun Trophy this year represented something unique and breathtaking: the world's first all-GT40 race grid. Commemorating half a century since the birth of Ford's GT40 programme, the Le Mans racer that was created entirely out of spite (and, more specifically, to annoy Enzo Ferrari) dominated Les Vingt-Quatre Heures between 1966-9. Various examples of the mkI, II, III and even the obscure, swoopy mkIV coalesced at Goodwood to create a frankly terrifying gaggle of thunderous fury and thudding sixties pistons. In the end, Adrian Newey and Kenny Brack claimed the honours in the 45-minute spectacular; Brack's footage has become rather famous - click here for that. So, here's a chunky wedge of GT40 photos for you. Enjoy! (And there's plenty more from the 2013 Revival here.)
