Fiat 8V Zagato Berlinetta

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

Last week we looked at the indescribably beautiful Fiat 8V Vignale Mille Miglia, soaking wet at the St. James's Concours. And here we have its rakish Lombardy sibling, the 8V Zagato Berlinetta. The chromed sidestrakes around the iconic Z emblem would be a dead giveaway on their own, but you really can't miss the trademark double-bubble roof. A magnificent vision in white, this, with the '8' in the 8V badge on the tail looking as if it were hewn from a solid billet of silver. Even dripping on the wet London grass, doesn't it evoke the carefree motoring of the sunkissed Riviera...? Makes you want to leap in, point the nose toward southern Europe and leave the rain behind. Magical little thing.
