Salon Privé 2013

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

Salon Privé styles itself as 'the UK's premier boutique motoring event', and as you circulate among the priceless concours metal with a glass of Pommery in your hand, the smell of barbecuing lobster wafting gently on the breeze, it's pretty hard to argue with that.
Held at the dramatic and spectacular stately home of Syon Park, the eighth annual Salon Privé offered the sort of quality and diversity to rival Villa d'Este or Pebble Beach; it's firmly established on the international concours scene, inviting entrants from all corners of the globe. There were eleven categories in all, ranging from a historical snapshot of streamlining to the latest outlandish concepts & prototypes - and, of course, there were showcases of the three big recurring stories of 2013: fifty years of both Lamborghini and the Porsche 911, and Aston Martin's centenary. Click here to see the full list of entrants.

As you'd hope from SuckSqueezeBangBlow, I quaffed a little Champagne and spent the day chatting to car owners about featuring their exotic machinery in various magazines and what-have-you. Results TBC. I'll be covering the event as a whole for Retro Cars and GoCompare Covered in due course, and there'll be all manner of special SSBB exclusives from the show in the coming days and weeks. But if you just can't wait, there are 600-odd photos here. Enjoy.
Oh, and tomorrow it's the St. James's Concours. Let's see how the two events compare...
