Eagle Low Drag GT

Eagle are the premium face of the burgeoning restomod industry. For some time now they've been subtly tweaking Jaguar E-Types with modern suspension, brakes, tyres and so forth to optimise their performance for twenty-first century motoring, and all of this expertise and enthusiasm came to a head with 2009's Eagle Speedster, a car you've undoubtedly seen on Top Gear or in various magazines, reducing grown men to weeping, shuddering heaps of lust and envy. And now Eagle have bottled lightning for a second time with this, the Low Drag GT.

What you're looking at here is a bespoke, ground-up build of a continental tourer that takes its styling cues from the iconic Low Drag racers of yore. The lightweight, all-aluminium bodywork complements the unique chassis to provide a modern driving experience; one that's sure to be eyelid-peelingly rapid thanks to the rorty 4.7-litre straight-six under the slinky hood. It's a masterpiece, this engine, and a joy to behold; from its shimmering carbon-fibre intake to the six-branch manifold, the whole coalesces to form a work of technological art. The fact that it produces an obscene amount of high-revving power is merely a happy by-product.
The specially-cast wheels give a period aesthetic while allowing the fitment of modern tyres, and behind them lurks a beefy race-derived brake setup. Handling is taken care of by custom Öhlins suspension, and modern comforts and luxuries abound within, from the air-con and heated screens to the sizeable boot and long-range fuel tank.

Think of the Low Drag GT as more of a tribute than a replica. The form is period-appropriate rather than 100% correct; it's been modified for ease of use, with the floor lowered and the doors extended to make it a more practical day-to-day proposition. It takes Eagle over 6,000 hours to build one of these, and they say that the price reflects the extra work involved over the aforementioned Speedster, which itself costs over £600,000. This then, is a magnificent trinket - it'll irritate the purists, sure, but you'd be having too much fun to care. And your vast wedge of cash won't just be buying retro race-car looks and stunning performance - you'll have flawless reliability too. One for the lottery wishlist, then.
