BMW 2002 Hillclimber

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

This 2002 is so impressive, it's hard to know where to start...
The aero setup is an eyecatcher, with its 3.0 CSL-style fins along the bonnet edges complementing the jutting front splitter, gurney flap and rear diffuser. When you think of enlarged arches on an '02, the Turbo items would normally spring to mind, but the arches on this car are a chunky riot of Berg Cup purpose - and they're stuffed with wide BBS split-rims that suit the seventies racer aesthetic to a tee. The interior is basically little more than a winged Sparco seat and a huge rev counter, while the Deutsche Post livery just screams 'old-school circuit racer'. On the whole, one of the real highlights of the Retro Rides Gathering. So, who knows what's under the bonnet...?
