Supercharged Wide-arch E30

Words & photos - Daniel Bevis

For many BMW fans, the E30 M3 is the ultimate variant of the 3-series. But with prices spiralling ever northwards for Bavaria's race-bred three-box, there's a lot of scope for cracking out the spanners and creating something different from, say, a humble 318i base.
The car you see here has all the forthrightness of an M3, along with the anger and terror of filling said model with wasps and bears. Its hand-crafted arches echo those of the M car, but balloon out to cartoonish proportions; within them sit a set of absurdly dished Rota RBs, resplendent in a retina-searing raspberry hue that matches the rollcage.
There's a 2.7-litre M20 under the bonnet, mated to a Rotrex supercharger to deliver over 350bhp. FK coilovers keep the car planted, Wilwood brakes shear off the speed, Recaro buckets hug the kidneys, and everything else is taken care of by the sheer crushing weight of awesomeness. One of the shining stars of the Players Classic, this.
