Volvo 525i

One of my formative driving experiences happened in a Volvo 240, lapping the Nürburgring four-up and whooping like an ecstatic banshee. (You can read all about that in this month's Retro Cars magazine.)
My pitiful 13m40s lap time may well have been rather more impressive had that Volvo been anything like this one. This two-door affair packs a 2.5-litre BMW straight-six under the bonnet, which must be a bit of a chuckle. Factor in the hugely reduced weight from having the interior totally stripped of anything unnecessary, and you've got a lightweight, rear-wheel drive track monster - indeed, the insides feature little more than a rollcage and a pair of buckets. BBS RS rims are a scene-friendly choice which sit happily under the arches here, while the ride-height (taken care of by coilovers at the front, cut springs at the rear) is deliciously naughty for such a girthsome, slab-sided old bus. Very nice indeed.
