Zakspeed Cosworth mkII

Speedhunters have come up trumps with another staggering mkII Escort (remember this one?) - a Cosworth-powered, Zakspeed X-Pack-kitted one, no less.
That spartan intro does little justice to the build - this, as you've probably spotted, is a magnificent, awe-inspiring car with keen attention to detail and everything focused on performance. Under the bonnet is an HT Racing Cosworth YB, bored out to 2150cc and producing 280bhp at 8500rpm. It's got a carbon-fibre airbox & slide throttle bodies on one side and a ceramic-coated exhaust on the other, while its insides are crammed with Kent Cams, a steel billet crank, and all manner of precision goodies. Engine bay temperatures are kept under control by the judicious application of gold, McLaren F1-style.
The car sits firmly over its Compomotive split-rims on Nitron suspension (indeed, all manner of attention has been paid to the chassis set-up), and vast AP Racing brakes take care of shearing off the speed. The interior is pure race car, while the Escort's greatest hook is its looks: the Zakspeed-modified X-Pack kit is resplendent in Diamond White, and a raft of functional carbon-fibre addenda - spoilers, splitters, canards, roof-skin, boot, bonnet, doors - scream this car's purpose. It was built for the track, and it shows.
