The Lost CSL

Over on Speedhunters, Bryn Musselwhite recently reported an unusual finding at the Le Mans Classic: a BMW 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' that had been lost in the mists of time. The Gösser-liveried car spent fifteen solitary, dusty years languishing in a barn in Indonesia. It is, says Bryn, one of four 3.5-litre CSLs built by the factory in 1976 - it was campaigned with some success through the '76-'77 seasons, before being bought by Indonesian investors. Unfortunately the engine seized while racing at Jakarta, and the car was bundled into storage and left to rot.
It was rescued by Tony Walker in the early nineties, subjected to a lengthy restoration, and sent back into the fray, its 470bhp six kicking out enough thrust to back up the promises made by those aggressive lines.
