Patinated Kombi

Patina is easy to fake, but true patina tells stories. Take this VW Kombi: lucky enough to live in Brazil - where the climate is temperate-to-baking and winter road-gritting is unheard of - it's acquired its naturally dishevelled appearance through decades of being used for its intended purpose: as a practical, utilitarian lugger of families, friends and bulky loads. You can see in the picture below that it's relaxing through its evening years, a pair of deckchairs casually installed in the rear. It's bristling with inimitable period features - the basic radio, the sturdy front bumper, what can only be assumed to be the original paint - while a healthy lowering job contemporises its very being. It's lived a busy and worthwhile life (the myriad dents are testament to that), and now it's enjoying an ineffably cool twilight.
