Happy Birthday, Escort Twin-Cam!

The Escort Twin-Cam is a hugely significant car. In 1966 as Ford's new Escort was being tested at Boreham, the company's Competition Manager, Henry Taylor, and Chief Mechanic, Bill Meade, speculated that this family saloon might have the potential to be a whole lot spicier with a Lotus Twin-Cam in it. It is from this pondering that all Escort-based motorsport stems, and in January 1967 the Twin-Cam was drawn up, coming to fruition in under twelve months. 45 years later, let's celebrate its conception with a contemporary road test from Motor magazine.
