Lada Riva / Skyline mash-up

The Lada Riva could never really be called 'sporty'. Well, not until Mr Kartuzoff created the Lada 2105 Gladkov Adrenaline - it's got a 420bhp twin-turbo Skyline engine, aggressive bodywork and a pretty serious looking rollcage. You can see a full build gallery here.

Subaru STi coupe concept

Imagine a pumped-up WRC version of the Volkswagen Scirocco - that's basically what Subaru have come up with here. Picture it as a purpose-built rally car... it'd be the modern day Lancia Stratos. No, it's not official. No, it's not likely to be built. But it does show that even after the shockingly ugly new Impreza, Subaru haven't totally taken their eye off the ball.

Californian barn stash

A collector in California has spent the last quarter of a century stockpiling classics, mainly British, in his barn. Having realised that he's probably not going to get time to restore them all, he's decided to sell them off. So if you fancy a Jowett Jupiter, Lotus Europa, Bugeye Sprite, A40 or Standard 10, his probably won't have too much rust in them...

Clio breadvan on airbags

Airbag suspension for an epic drop over Porsche alloys - it's a unique and interesting idea; not to everyone's tastes, certainly, but I think it's pretty cool. You can't really go wrong with a strong thwack with the lowering stick and a decent set of rims, right?

Ferrari 2CV

It takes a special kind of lunacy to mate a Ferrari 355 with a Citroen 2CV, but that's exactly what Italian rally nutters Nimik have done.
There's 1,500 hours of quality work in it - you can only imagine the apoplectic fury it must provoke in the Ferrari die-hards. An inspired concept, brilliantly executed.

Hyundai reveal details of scrapped classics

Hyundai have released details of certain cars that they've already sent to the great crusher in the sky under the absurd and disturbing new scrappage scheme. Among the fallen are an Austin 1100, a Morris Minor, an MG Midget, an MGB GT, a Nissan 300ZX, six Mazda MX-5s and a Fiat X1/9.
Seeing as the cars need to have a current MOT to be traded in, you have to wonder what sort of arsehole you have to be to chop in a rare classic against a new Hyundai. It makes my blood boil...

Imprezas: indestructible (kind of)

It's an impressive demonstration of Subaru build quality that this Impreza STI hit a tree, flipped twice, demolished a stop sign, then hit another tree, and all of the occupants walked away unscathed. It's probably some sort of divine punishment for fitting that godawful bonnet...

Mercedes-Benz have always taken pride in the longevity of their classic models, both in their enduring reliability and timeless styling. Now they're putting their money where their mouth is by offering older Mercs in the showrooms.
Handpicked models from the '60s, '70s and '80s can be purchased with a 12 month warranty - each guaranteed to have under 150,000km on the clock and a full service history. Unfortunately, UK dealer networks aren't too keen on the idea of rolling out the scheme over here, but the demand in Germany is bound to convince them to rethink...

Maserati Cinqueporte

Want a sports car, but need to take the family on holiday too? The obvious answer is the Maserati Quattroporte - the executive Ferrari saloon. But what if you need to take all your old hedge trimmings to the dump as well? If only they made an estate version...
Thankfully for the niche market of wealthy folk who want different cars for different purposes but only have one parking space, Carrozzeria Touring will build you the Bellagio Fastback that you see below; a car that can only be descibed as 'Cinqueporte'. Ferrari engine in the front, swathes of leather in the middle, labrador in the back. Job's a good 'un.

MAFF Muron - it's an ugly bastard

I've never been a big fan of the Cayenne (the idea of a Porsche SUV disturbs me; it's an insult to a grand heritage, off-roaders shouldn't go that fast, and they're generally driven by Chelsea housewives who'd never dream of taking it off-road unless the satnav accidentally diverted them through a ford), but it takes a really special effort to make it uglier. As if gluing the nose of a 911 onto a Volkswagen Touareg were not enough, check out what Romanian tuning house MAFF have decided to do with it.
Yes, it's got 700bhp, but what's the fucking point? Ferdinand Porsche must be rapidly gyrating in his grave. The horror.

Transamaro

Back in the days of four-on-the-floor V8 lunacy and good old Detroit rivalry, an all-new Camaro would have been quickly followed by a new Trans-Am. Of course, there is no more Pontiac, so what's the answer to the gorgeous and formidable 2010 Camaro? Tuning firm ASC have an effective-looking solution - their Transamaro (unfortunately only existing as digital renderings for the moment) has a pretty brutal nose and a glorious ducktail at the rear. Let's hope they actually build it.

BMW E28 evolution

Mike Burroughs is a man with an eye for detail. His '85 BMW 535i has graduated through various stages of evolution, some more 'scene' than others, to the final full-on rat-look you see at the bottom.
He's clearly not afraid to upset the fanboy applecart, taking various styling cues from the VeeDub scene (polished BBS split-rims, epic negative camber, distressed bodywork, roofrack full of retro bits 'n' bobs) and applying them to his minty-fresh E28. It has, inevitably, been met with mixed reactions, ranging from those who love the unique and pioneering mishmash of different stylistic elements to the vociferously outraged purists. SuckSqueezeBangBlow is happy to sit in the former camp - it's a thing of beauty, and each incarnation has something intriguing to offer.
Oh, and Mike's abilities with a camera aren't too shabby either - you can see more of his superb E28 (as well as plenty of other interesting metal) here.

IAD Mosler MT900 GTR XX 'Land Shark'

Snappy name, huh?
The Mosler MT900 GTR XX is a phenomenal machine. Simply phenomenal. 600bhp and 0-60mph in 3.1s is not to be sniffed at, and it looks like some sort of angry well-finished kit car from the nineties. In a good way.
But perhaps that's where the kit car connection should be abandoned? Not so if you're John Gocha, chief of the rather tackily-named 'Intense Automotive Design'. As a showcase for his company, he's stripped a GTR XX down to just 861kg, and he claims to have squeezed 2500bhp out of the LS7 twin-turbo V8, which is frankly a little implausible. He's also claiming 0-60mph in 2.5s, 150mph in 6.7s, 250 in 17.5s and a top speed of 305mph. Theoretically, the car can apparently withstand 375mph, and they're lining up Michael Schumacher to be the test driver.
Now... either John Gocha is some sort of living legend, or he's a massive fibber. Time will tell, I guess.

Ferrambo

This has been around for a little while now, but is always worth a re-visit.
If you haven't seen it before, the Ferrambo started life as a 1960 Nash Rambler Wagon, which Divers Street Rods decided to have a little tinker with...
The original body now sits on a custom-made Art Morrison frame, housing the 400hp V8 and suspension components from a Ferrari F360. The fit 'n' finish are exemplary, and it's clear that it's been built to perform rather than just being a trailer queen - the suspension and braking systems have been honed to perfection, while the V8 is cradled in a custom mid-mounted frame; the rear windows even tilt open 5 degrees when the ignition key's turned to provide a little ventilation. That's not to say it isn't a show-stopper though - it won the Ridler Award at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. And, of course, it carries the true Ferrari ethos of performance and luxury - there's a set of matching luggage under the bonnet where the old straight-six used to be.
