Mercedes-Benz 300SL Panamericana

As a tasty break from the excitable chatter around the forthcoming SLS AMG, Gullwing-AG have released these gorgeous renderings of a modern interpretation of the classic 300SL Gullwing. The Panamericana features a 365bhp 5.5-litre V8, 17"x8" AMG alloys, six-speed transmission and side-exit exhausts.

The shell is constructed from aluminium-reinforced fibreglass, the chassis is powder-coated steel. Handling is taken care of by independent suspension with adjustable coilovers, while the brakes - discs all round, natch - will be rather less frightening than those of the original. The interior is a mix of form and function, with full leather trim complemented by four-point race harnesses, and there's even matching luggage. In many ways, then, the consummate all-rounder. And damned attractive to boot. No word on prices yet though...
