Abarth Coupe

Cross your fingers and pray that this goes into production - the Abarth Coupe is based on the Fiat 500 and, well, just look at it... it's stunning. It bridges the gap between saucy mini-sports car and frugal & sensible cheapness - the perfect car to launch into the austerity economy. Much like Ford's transition from Ka to StreetKa, the Abarth Coupe would retain the 500's front-engine front-drive format and carry over much of the componentry and switchgear. (Although unlike the StreetKa, it's not hideous or embarrassing.)

The 'esseesse' version would have 158bhp and a clever traction control system that mimics the effect of an LSD, and would still return around 45mpg. Best of all, the starting price would be just £12,000. It's a hell of an attractive proposition...
